Ottawa put in a Birth Centre proposal on behalf of all the midwifery practices, supported by the CMNRP & LHIN, and we should hear back soon (latest is January 2013) from the Ministry as to who will be receiving the funding for Birth Centres (2) in Ontario. The study examined 418 Amish women who delivered 927 babies at a birthing center in Southern Wisconsin, a facility that lacked an operating room.
Over a 17-year period, just 4 percent of babies were born by Cesarean section at the birthing center. In the general U.S. population, by contrast, nearly a third of babies are born by C-section.
