Today is the day to take action and show your support for Ontario midwives.
This morning, the Association of Ontario Midwives will be filing a complaint on behalf of all Ontario midwives with the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario. As a female-dominated profession, midwifery has historically faced systemic gender discrimination โ resulting in midwives being unfairly under-compensated for nearly 20 years.
Today is our day of action to right this wrong. We need you to speak up about the true value of midwifery.
Please send a short email or tweet to Premier Wynne today and let her know that you support pay equity for midwives.
Pay equity is a human right protected by law in Ontario. This protection is especially important for traditionally female-dominated professions like midwifery that face historic and systemic discrimination.
Several independent reports โ including one commissioned by government โ clearly illustrate midwives are significantly underpaid for their work. However, the government has failed to implement pay equity for midwives.
We need you! You know the real value of midwives. Speak up and support pay equity for midwives.
