Where’s My Midwife? has set their sights on a new town. With posts on their blog and Facebook page, they asked their followers who needed help accessing midwives – residents of the Smiths Falls community answered with a resounding US!
Where’s My Midwife? is an organization whose mission is to increase access to midwives in homes, hospitals and free-standing birth centre’s through education and advocacy. The group works on behalf of consumers and aims to ensure that women have the option of midwifery care, no matter their choice of birth place. The organization was founded in Wilmington, NC in 2009.
Where’s My Midwife? had its first undertaking in Ontario in the town of Orangeville in September of 2011. For over a year midwives there were being denied privileges for their entire practice in the local hospital, Headwaters Health Care Centre. Where’s My Midwife? rallied the community, giving direction to women and families passionate about midwifery care. As of May 1st, 2012, The Midwives of Headwater Hills have privileges for their entire practice and are catching babies at Headwaters Health Care Centre once again.
Where’s My Midwife? has been asked by Smiths Falls consumers to get involved in increasing access to midwives in their area in the hospital setting. Where’s My Midwife? is currently accepting new team members in the Smiths Falls area.
